The usual marking of the end of the season. All the resorts in Tahoe are closed by now and the locals still have that urge to shred! GBP and the Gremlinz know this all too well! On April 20th, 2015, aka the national holiday 4/20, locals and even people from out of town show up to this snowboard culture post season party somewhere in the backcountry of Lake Tahoe. Last year they set up atop Donner lake near Sugarbowl resort, but this year with the lack of snow at lower elevations they decided to set up in the backcountry of Mt Rose Summit.
The party consisted of over 100 guests, a DJ, free soup, spliffs, and all the Tahoe shredders laying down whatever they could on this custom course hand built a few days before by the GBP Crew. The course included a dug out section that popped up onto a flat section of snow, overhead a fly over of that dug out into another pump track assembly, to the right was another starting point where riders hit a hip over a small pine tree, as well as a bent tree rail, quarter pipe set up, down corrugated, and a two section drop down rail that had riders attempting gnarly tricks all day!
The beers, whiskey, bowls, blunts, spliffs, joints, and e-pens were all in attendance. The music riled everyone up with Jah beats and enabled everyone to feel the vibes around them.
Session after session on each feature took place until it was time for the “high” ollie contest which is a staple of the get together. Many tried and only one took first place. Funny thing was, everyone was too involved in the contest and perhaps too ‘high’ to realize it was almost 4:20 pm. The music stopped and the announcer reminded everyone to spark up and enjoy the day as this was the quintessential moment of the holiday.
Many thanks to the guys who took the time to build the course and put together such a rad event! you guys kill it!!
